Triathlon: Committed

Caroline has officially spilled the beans (i.e. posted it on Facebook): we both qualified for the Age Group Triathlon World Championships, which will be held in New Zealand in October of 2012. I'll be competing in the Sprint distance, and Caroline the Olympic.

(Triathlon Canada still hasn't confirmed we are on the team, but they have charged our credit card for the first round of fees. I am assuming that is the all-clear.)

We plan on keeping this blog updated with progress, races, and weekly summaries of how we're training and how we're doing. The goal is for at least one post a week.

The race was a lot of fun. Caroline will be writing a race report up later, but for now, here is one of my favourite pictures from the day:

Kelowna Quick Summary

Just a quick report for now, and unfortunately no pictures yet. Hopefully tomorrow I can do more details and pictures.

We both had awesome races and are very happy with the results. Caroline was 4th in her age group and I came in at 6th.

I'm sitting in a hostel room in Revelstoke right now, waiting for the shower, and am absolutely shattered. Tomorrow we are sposed to go and bike up Revelstoke mountain (27 km long with 1500 m of vertical gain). I am not sure I will live.

Also - the top 10 from each age group in the triathlon become eligible to race for Canada in the age group world championships the following year (mid October 2012, in New Zealand).

We have a week to decide.

Morning from UBC

Morning ride. Probably the last one before the race. I might miss training for this triathlon.

A little, anyways.

Prep Weekend

The last two weekends we've been gone, either running from cows or getting snowburns (more details on both later, once the pictures are ready - it's been hectic lately).

This weekend we took it easy.  A last weekend to sort out details before the race in Kelowna this coming weekend.

Saturday on the beach, and fixing bikes.  Sunday up at Squamish, where we discovered an increidble lake to swim in (if you're wearing a wetsuit), and an incredible road to ride.

Not a bad weekend.
